We are thrilled to announce that our project for a new public school has won the competition for concept design organized by Sofia Municipality.
The design envisions the school as an open, inclusive, and sustainable environment, fully integrated into the neighborhood and in harmony with nature. It redefines the traditional school environment, creating an inspiring and flexible setting that encourages personal growth and active engagement from both students and the community.
The building is conceived as a living organism, where the balance between built structures and outdoor spaces is central. The design embraces the “yard-living room” principle, transforming the schoolyard into an outdoor living area. Terraced levels maintain constant visual and physical connections with nature, while classrooms feature their own terraces, offering opportunities for varied learning experiences and allowing part of the educational process to take place outdoors.
The project places the child at the center, supporting multiple modes of learning, from quiet zones for individual work to shared spaces that encourage movement, play, and creativity. The foyer serves as the heart of the school, featuring a stage, meeting areas, and direct connections to the library and cafeteria, all of which can be used beyond school hours. The large gym and swimming pool are also accessible to neighborhood residents, turning the school into a true community hub.
