The team of IPA – Architecture and more designed the third and largest Bulgarian factory of the Japanese company Yazaki, a leading manufacturer of automotive components for global brands such as Renault, Ford, and Daimler. By creating a highly efficient mechanism composed of a functional, spacious production base for cable harness assembly and a comfortable, well-connected administrative area, the architects provided a strong foundation for the operation and development of a complex accommodating more than 2,000 employees near Dimitrovgrad.
Before reaching the actual design phase, the IPA - Architecture and more had to address significant terrain challenges. One part of the site contained large marble deposits, while the other exhibited marshy conditions. The ground level was stabilized and equalized only after more than 60 geological drillings and the subsequent casting of reinforced concrete slabs.
The facility consists of a production and warehouse block and an administrative and service block. The production section comprises several volumes with varying heights, each tailored to accommodate specific functions. The design ensures ample space and optimal conditions for the installation of equipment according to strict technological requirements, while also guaranteeing high levels of safety for both the production process and the personnel.
The two-storey administrative block houses employee offices, conference rooms, training areas, a medical room, and a canteen. The interior features light tones and high-quality materials selected for easy maintenance and to create a pleasant working atmosphere with a sense of comfort. The production and warehouse zone is constructed with a steel structure, while the administrative area is built from monolithic reinforced concrete.
The facades are clad in polyurethane-filled thermal panels in a light color, giving the complex a solid and cohesive appearance. In contrast to the main façade tone - but aligned with the company’s logo - black window frames were selected. The second corporate color, red, appears as an accent on the roof edging, the canopy above the main entrance, the guardhouse roof, and within the administrative interior.
The exterior area includes a wide pedestrian zone and parking for more than 170 vehicles. The courtyard is landscaped with low greenery, and the main entrance is marked by flagpoles displaying the flags of Bulgaria, Japan, the EU, and the company.
The manufacturing facility designed by IPA – Architecture and more provides a reliable foundation and a strong launch for Yazaki’s third plant in Bulgaria.
