Intuitive, a global leader and pioneer in robot-assisted surgery and minimally invasive care, has opened its first manufacturing facility in Bulgaria. Located in the industrial zone of the town of Parvomay, the site is part of the company’s long-term strategy to expand its European manufacturing capacity in advanced surgical technologies.
With an investment of approximately BGN 84 million, the facility specializes in the production of micro-optical components, optical systems, and 3D endoscopes, used globally in the da Vinci surgical systems. There are more than 10,000 da Vinci surgical systems installed in hospitals worldwide.
The architectural design, developed by IPA - Architecture and more, combines innovation, sustainable approach, and efficient functional logic on an industrial scale, rare within the country. Occupying a site of around 220,000 sq.m., the campus includes clean production areas, an administrative building, and a complete technical and engineering infrastructure. The total built-up area of approximately 17,600 sq.m is designed around optimized workflows and team needs.
The project is being delivered in stages, a strategic approach that allows part of the production to begin before the entire campus is completed. In the first stage, key assembling areas for optical components and endoscopes are established, temporarily divided with thermal-panel walls. In subsequent stages, ceilings, installations, and specialized technological equipment are added. This phased approach shortens the commissioning time and ensures a smooth transition to full-scale production.
The new Intuitive facility exemplifies contemporary industrial construction. Its façade feautures lightweight, energy-efficient materials that give the building a clean, modern architectural expression. Inside, the environment meets strict technological standards, with precisely engineered systems maintaining the controlled microclimate required for working with sensitive optical components.
The administrative section complements the production areas with a clear functional layout that includes offices, meeting and training rooms, relaxation areas, a canteen, and sanitary facilities, as well as designated rooms for pregnant and nursing employees. The interior reflects the company’s commitment to creating a supportive and favorable work environment.
To ensure sustainability both technologically and environmentally, IPA - Architecture and more developed a comprehensive engineering infrastructure with an emphasis on sustainable urban mobility, eco-friendly transport solutions, and efficient land use.
The Intuitive project stands out as one of the most significant investments in medical technology sector in our country. It combines strategic vision, technological precision, and sustainable architecture, strengthening Bulgaria’s position as a preferred destination for high-tech manufacturing and international collaborations.
