BRITANICA Park School is the first and only institution of its kind in Bulgaria, bringing together a school and a kindergarten within a single educational complex. Guided by the belief that the environment shapes thinking and habits, the team at IPA - Architecture and more designed the project with abundant natural light, greenery, warm colors, spaciousness, and comfort, creating a calm environment for young minds while cultivating an appreciation for beauty in all its forms.
The classrooms feature designated seating and storage areas, along with open zones for interactive and alternative forms of learning. Children are able to move freely, while the desk configurations provide personal space and maintain a sense of teamwork.
Particular attention in the architectural design is given to shared spaces that encourage communication and teamwork. These areas allow students to rest, study, exchange ideas, prepare group projects, present their achievements, and form new friendships. In addition to dedicated arts classrooms for music, theater, and dance, the school includes a spacious two-level library, an event hall, and a sports hall suitable for basketball, volleyball, and other team sports and activities.
The heart of the educational complex is the atrium, a stepped interior courtyard formed with natural materials and greenery and accessible from all parts of the school. The roof above this area is glazed to allow natural daylight into the central space.
The school grounds also include an outdoor amphitheater. Additional areas are provided for outdoor lessons, activities, and recreation, together with sports fields. Playgrounds for the youngest children are designed with particular attention to safety, and the equipment is made from natural and environmentally responsible materials.
The facade of the complex brings together British building traditions and a contemporary architectural character. Ceramic bricks in warm terracotta tones, characteristic of traditional buildings in the UK, are combined with large glazed surfaces that give the facade a sense of openness and lightness. Contemporary accents include the dynamic entrance canopies and blue frames around selected windows.
High standards of energy efficiency and safety are applied throughout the project. Photovoltaic panels are installed on the roofs, an innovative water purification system is integrated, and the construction materials are selected according to environmental criteria.
