Fantastico Group has expanded its logistics center near the town of Elin Pelin with an investment of 36 million BGN. The modern facility, covering a total area of approximately 36,000 sq.m, plays a strategic role in the company’s development. It enables the optimization of the entire supply process and supports the growth of the retail chain into new markets.
The logistics center includes new warehouse areas for goods requiring controlled-temperature storage. Each zone is tailored to the specific requirements of its product category, ensuring optimal conditions for preserving freshness. The different storage rooms maintain six temperature regimes, ranging from +12°C to -24°C.
For the construction of the industrial refrigeration installation, Fantastico Group relied on leading international experts. The design was entrusted to Eckert & Partners, while execution was carried out by GEA Refrigeration. The system is based on a cascade configuration, combining exceptional energy efficiency with full recovery of waste heat. The proper operation of the refrigeration systems is monitored from three locations - on-site at the logistics center, from a dedicated unit at the company’s headquarters in Sofia, and by the equipment supplier.
The facility features 78 hydraulic loading bays, and its processing capacity will increase to 150–200 tons of goods per day. This expansion will significantly shorten the time between order placement and deliveries to the company’s supermarkets. It will also reduce the number of vehicles entering the urban environment, contributing to lower environmental impact and improved urban air quality.
The building is equipped with a Building Management System (BMS) that controls and manages the operation of all systems on the premises.
An important component of the project is the installation of Fantastico Group’s largest photovoltaic system to date, with an installed capacity of 980 kWp, generating renewable energy for in-house consumption. Until now, the company operated 12 photovoltaic systems; with the newly built installation, Fantastico Group’s total capacity for generating its own green energy now exceeds 2.5 MWp.
The expansion of the logistics base was designed by IPA – Architecture and more, and executed by Baraj Group.
