The Leoni Production Complex in Pleven is a project by IPA - Architecture and more, completed in 2020 as a large-scale industrial facility for automotive manufacturing. With a gross floor area of 30,000 sq m, approximately 14,000 sq m of production space, and capacity for 2,000 jobs, the complex integrates manufacturing, logistics, and administrative functions within a unified architectural and functional system. The project was developed as part of the architectural design services provided by IPA - Architecture and more.
The complex was developed for Leoni Bulgaria, whose facility is used for the assembly of cable harnesses for the automotive industry. Mercedes-Benz was included in the initial production program. The project forms part of the IPA - Architecture and more portfolio of manufacturing facilities.
The building is divided into three main functional zones: administrative, manufacturing, and logistics. The manufacturing and logistics areas are primarily organized on the ground floor, providing direct connections between the different processes. Employee facilities include a cafeteria, changing rooms, meeting rooms, and training spaces.
A key aspect of the engineering design is the integration of specialized process installations into the overall building solution. These systems support the safe and continuous operation of the production equipment while providing practical access for operation and maintenance. Some technical routes, including water supply lines serving the production machinery, are integrated into the facade system.
The architectural solution follows the clear geometry and functional logic associated with industrial architecture. The facades use horizontal insulated panels combined with sheet-metal cladding around the perimeter of the building. Leoni's corporate blue is used as an accent on the canopies, roof edges, and stair volumes, creating a recognizable visual identity within the overall composition.
The production complex is designed as an integrated system in which architecture, technological processes, and engineering infrastructure are coordinated to support efficient operation and the daily activities of employees.
