VOLAPLAST, one of Europe’s most innovative companies in plastic processing, chose Bulgaria as the location for its first facility outside Germany and entrusted the team of IPA – Architecture and more with the design and realization of the project.
The complex occupies a site of over 17,000 square meters and includes a production and storage building, as well as a two-storey administrative wing.
For the main building, which combines manufacturing and warehouse areas, the architects carefully followed the specific requirements of the company’s core business – the production and assembly of plastic components for the automotive industry. The team of IPA – Architecture and more created optimal conditions for the installation of machinery and equipment, for efficient workflow, and for the safe movement of employees. The facility’s structural integrity is ensured by the use of steel, concrete, and reinforced concrete panels, columns, and frameworks. Functionality and comfort are achieved through spacious production and storage halls, easy-to-maintain and safe surfaces, and excellent lighting and ventilation.
White - a symbol of cleanliness and openness - dominates both the interior and exterior design. Accents in the company’s signature red color highlight the roof outline, the base trim, the steel canopy above the main entrance of the administrative wing, and the VOLAPLAST logo on the facade, giving the building a confident and distinctive identity. Modern touches are added through three tall glazed sections and the solid parapets of the external staircases surrounding the façade.
The administrative area accommodates offices, meeting rooms, changing rooms, a relaxation zone, and the necessary technical facilities. The staircase connecting the two levels features a wall-integrated, illuminated handrail that adds a refined architectural detail. With its dynamic glazing and projecting canopy, the administrative building expresses both representation and hospitality, welcoming business partners and visitors alike.
Through this project, IPA – Architecture and more provided VOLAPLAST with a strong and elegant introduction to Bulgaria, designing a facility worthy of the company’s German precision and refined sense of aesthetics.
