The team of IPA – Architecture and more approaches with particular enthusiasm every project that includes an interior design assignment, as it allows the architects to complete the full creative cycle - an essential part of which is the thoughtful composition of interior spaces.
Such is the project for the logistics and office building of ORBICO, part of ORBICO GROUP, the largest distributor in Europe. After completing the complex - comprising both the logistics and the administrative building and awarded Building of the Year in 2021 - our architects continued their work by developing the interior design as well. The leading principle here was that the character of the furnishings should follow the function of each space.
Clean forms, exposed concrete, and perforated metal sheets establish a distinctly corporate tone in the lobby, yet one softened by natural oak elements, modern furniture with a futuristic line, and built-in planters with live greenery that introduce a sense of hospitality. The company’s corporate colours - white and red - appear throughout the interior, at times as bold highlights, at others as subtle decorative accents.
In the working areas, this professional tone is most tangible in the meeting room, where clean white tables and black chairs allow for different configuration setups. The walls and ceiling follow the classic combination of black and white, enriched by a mural of Saint Sofia - evoking the spirit of Italian master painters, yet executed with a stroke reminiscent of contemporary graffiti.
Murals continue through the rest of the interiors, though in a more expressive, youthful manner, gradually transforming the atmosphere from corporate, to creative in the office areas, and relaxing in the dining and lounge zones. In some places, an even more impactful approach is used: the graffiti appear as motivational messages.
The office spaces feature both comfortable workstations positioned by the generous windows, and soft seating areas shaped like booths - suitable for focused work or sharing ideas within the team. Tall storage cabinets with open shelves and closed compartments provide ample space for organizing work materials and personal belongings.
The dining and relaxation areas benefit from abundant natural light and are furnished with comfortable chairs and soft seating in fresh colours, various shapes, and differing heights, creating a sense of home-like comfort.
Through a creative and thoughtful approach, the team of IPA – Architecture and more has designed for ORBICO an interior environment that is stimulating yet calm - a setting that encourages employees to develop their skills. In the language of creators, the interior of the office building feels like a pair of home slippers for professionalism: offering comfort and a touch of relaxed style, without diminishing the seriousness of the work, while adding inspiration and a sense of belonging to the company and its team.
