Vita Hospital is expanding its medical facilities in the Krastova Vada neighborhood of Sofia through a project by IPA - Architecture and more. The expansion includes a new hospital wing, development of the existing building, and adaptation of selected interior areas while the medical facility remains operational throughout construction. The project forms part of the IPA - Architecture and more portfolio of healthcare buildings and focuses on increasing capacity, organizing healthcare processes efficiently, and improving conditions for patients and medical teams.
The project is centered on a new wing connected to the existing hospital building, together with changes to the organization of selected operational areas. Implementation is divided into consecutive phases, with each completed part brought into operation before work begins on the next. This allows the expansion to proceed without interrupting the normal operation of Vita Hospital.
The first phase includes two underground levels with service functions and 104 parking spaces for patients, staff, and visitors. Temporary pedestrian and vehicle routes and protected circulation areas are provided during construction so that access to the operating hospital remains safe and functional.
The next phase introduces the above-ground portion of the new wing with additional spaces for medical care, administration, and technical services. A conference and training center is planned on the seventh floor for seminars, professional training, and presentations of medical equipment. The center has a direct connection to the operating rooms, allowing surgical procedures to be followed live on a large screen during training and demonstration sessions. The space is equipped with contemporary sound and visualization systems, while the IPA - Architecture and more interior team is developing the complete interior design of the center.
The same phase also includes the addition of one floor to the existing hospital building. Selected interior areas are adapted to improve circulation and movement between the different functional zones of the complex.
Particular attention is given to the connection between the new wing and the existing structure. As part of the architectural design, functional connections between the levels are developed so that movement between the two parts of the hospital remains logical and continuous. The new wing follows the architectural character of the existing building and extends the complex without creating an abrupt visual or functional division.
The final phase includes completion of the uppermost level of the new building. These spaces are designed to remain flexible and adaptable to future medical, administrative, or other functions according to the hospital's evolving requirements.
Once the expansion is fully completed, Vita Hospital will provide 110 parking spaces. Entrances and internal circulation are designed as an accessible environment with level transitions, generous entrance areas, and unobstructed movement for different user groups.
Phased implementation allows each part of the expansion to be completed and brought into use without interrupting medical operations. Construction planning responds to the safety of patients, visitors, and medical teams and to the requirement for the healthcare facility to remain fully operational throughout the entire implementation period.
The project extends the IPA - Architecture and more expertise in complex healthcare buildings where architectural design must be coordinated with clinical processes, medical infrastructure, and the requirement for uninterrupted operation of an active healthcare facility.
For Vita Hospital, the expansion represents an investment in increased capacity and continued development of its medical facilities. The new wing, the additional floor to the existing building, the training center, and changes to the internal organization form part of the overall development of the hospital complex in Krastova Vada.
